Chemicals are considered to be harmful for the pipes, but bio-degradeable solutions do not harm the pipes. The major reasons for backups include tree roots growing into the sewer system and grease building up in the sewer system. Electrically cleaning the sewer system is a good way to quickly unclog it, but to prevent the backups from returning in a few months, you can use products that actually work.
